Nong-O Hama has conquered ONE Championship’s bantamweight Muay Thai division. Now the 38-year-old Thai plans to rule over another weight class. But in order to do so, he must first overcome a crafty muay mat.
The former ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion faces 28-year-old Kongthoranee Sor Sommai in flyweight Muay Thai action at ONE Fight Night 28. The event kicks off on Saturday, February 8, at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Nong-O announced his move from bantamweight to flyweight after suffering a decision loss to Kiamran Nabati at ONE Friday Fights 81 in September 2024.
The defeat was his third in 15 months — unheard of considering he reigned as the bantamweight champ for five years and defended his belt seven times.
But as the division continues to grow, so does the physique of those competing in it. With fighters like Nabati and Nico Carrillo — another of Nong-O’s previous tormentors — seemingly cutting down from larger weights, it makes sense for him to get in where he fits in.
Let’s not forget, before he joined ONE Championship, Nong-O surged through Rajadamnern Stadium and Lumpinee Stadium. In fact, he won the 135-pound (ONE’s flyweight limit) titles at both arenas.
Nong-O Wows Onlookers In Recent Muay Thai Padwork Session
Ahead of his flyweight Muay Thai fight against Kongthoranee Sor Sommai, Nong-O Hama put his striking skills on display during a recent padwork session.
The legendary Thai has not skipped a beat. He looks as sharp as ever while he prepares for what will be a test of skill and speed against the much-younger Kongthoranee.
Kongthoranee, for his part, was last seen in action against Nakrob Fairtex at ONE Fight Night 26 in December 2024. There, he battled to a unanimous decision win, showing casing his punching prowess and fight IQ.
Should Kongthoranee defeat Nong-O, he will add a respected Muay Thai veteran’s name to his list of wins. But if Nong-O returns to flyweight looking like the same fighter who stormed through the bantamweight division, we could see him challenge for the belt sometime this year.
